One of my teenage dreams has come true . The legendary Luis Mariutti is recording bass for Empiric’s new album. It’s an immense honour and pleasure for me, muito obrigado
My story with Luis goes way back. Here it is, in case you’re interested…More surprises coming soon!
I discovered «Carry On», by Angra, in the early nineties. I loved it, especially the instrumental section where they mixed brass with distorted guitars over a crazy bass line with an unbelievable sound. I immediately bought «Angels Cry» and they became my favourite band and my heroes straight away.
I followed their career and bought all their albums and finally, in 1999, I saw them live. Thanks to a friend who knew the promoter, I also had the chance to spend time with them and even drove them around in my car. It was surreal. Another interesting fact is that the band that opened that show, Calvaria, hired me a couple of years later.
I eventually started working with that promoter, Paulo Barón, who later became the manager of Shaman, the band some of them formed when Angra split up. When Shaman did their first tour, my then band, Calvaria, opened for them and they invited me to join them on stage to play a song in front of a packed venue. Another incredible moment I will never forget.
Shortly after that I moved to Spain and when they came here I became part of their crew for a tour we did with Avalanch where we shared unforgettable moments.
Shaman eventually split up and they became André Matos’ band. When they came to Spain, I went to see them, met them backstage, and I also had an interesting interview with André for the magazine I was working for at the time. I exchanged emails with him regularly over the next few years but, unfortunately , that was the last time I saw him before his sad passing a few years ago.
Years later, thanks to social media, I got in touch with some of them again, which led to this amazing moment and the opportunity to have some of that magic that struck me 30 years ago, that same bass player and sound, as part of my own music.
I am deeply thankful. Carry on!
Estoy profundamente agradecido. ¡Carry On!
